This story is not an apocalyptic tale. It paints neither a utopian nor a dystopian future, but it DOES take you into a faintly possible world grown from the same ideals behind so much Scifi. I first read this book in 1988 shortly after it was first published, and I'm glad that t picked it up again nearly 30 years later. This is one of the books that I will certainly read several more times before I die just because it's candy for the imagination.Product details

Read this book on a long flight thoughrly enjoyed it. I am reading it again and again. The plot twists and characters roles make this one of my favorite books. A very enthralling story.
Definitely not War and Peace, bur fun and creative. Frankowski creates an interesting world and an interesting scenario, but keeps it light. A good vacation read.
This is a good book, Though it could be said to appeal mostly to the adolesent in is. And it is not quite as good as the authors timetravel books.
Read everything by Frankkowski he is marvelous. Buy the radiant warrior series a grabber, funny and very clever alternate time travel history.
Enjoyable story. As the author states in the epilogue it should have been a 3 book story so he could have fleshed out a few more story lines and characters . For early work this is worth reading just to see how Leo Frankowski grew as a story teller.
it was an enjoyable read. wasn't the best, to my tastes, but enjoyable none the less. I found the characters confusing in my reactions to them - my mind was unable to decipher who I was supposed to be cheering for or booing down. The protagonists always had something about them that was unlikable, and the antagonists had their own nobility of cause
This is one of Frankowski's early works, and it shows. While many of the "fantasy-clothed-in-Sci-Fi" themes in this book, he revisits in "A Boy & His Tank", this yarn spins them clumsily. Very preachy. Very utopian. Nice to know he's gotten MUCH better at his craft than this small tome!
